Google might announce foldable pixel in 2021
A document from the internal Android discloses all about the launch of Google’s products in 2021. The Pixel 5a and a smartphone that can be folded are in the pipe line of the list of products that are in the development stage. Yes, we might eventually witness Google taking a leap in to the foldable smartphone market. They will be taking on other smartphone manufacturers such as the Huawei, Motorola & Samsung.
According to the reports, the document consisted of lists of Android builds for all the Pixel phones starting from the Pixel 2. There was the Pixel 4a in the list, which was announced recently. Along with the soon to arrive Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5. These two will not be available in Indian market. Both the phones will be launched in the month of October says the document.
As of now the only phone sold by Google in America is the Pixel 4a.
The interesting thing is that, in-development devices are also featured in the list. These are given with codename as “oriole,” “passport,” and “raven.” Although the “oriole,” and “raven.” are supposedly the models of Pixel 6, the “passport’” is clearly mentioned as the “foldable” phone. All the 3 phones are developed under the label “Q4 2021”. This labeling could be a hint of the year the phones will be launched.
Android 10 was launched last year and since then the platform began to the support the foldable form factors. However, Google has not yet shown a prototype or the foldable phone itself as yet. In a report from 2019 there was a statement that said Google is building a foldable device. The then head of Google Pixel Mario Queiroz said that the company was in the process of “prototyping the technology.”
Although there is no official confirmation from Google, as to whether it is going to launch the foldable phone.
It is important to understand that we will not necessarily witness Google launching a foldable device. In the list of Google phones there is one device with the codename “muskie”. This could be the Pixel 2 XL prototype which was axed and was never brought into the market.
When you talk about the smartphone hardware of google, the year 2020 has been somewhat an unconventional year. Firstly, we got to know that the Pixel 4a being postponed several times and until October 2020, the phone will be available for sale only in the US markets. Secondly, the Google Pixel 5 which is still to be announced is being touted that it will not use the flagship processor, rather the mid-range processor will be used. This is probably to make their products more competitive in price.
Conclusion
And lastly, the Pixel 4 series which last year Google announced was not even brought to the Indian market along with some other markets has already been obsolete in the US. This leaves the Pixel 4a as the only Google phone that is being sold in the US market.
